Founded by Alicja Kubicka and Borja Martínez, Interplay Architects was established in 2023 after being selected to design the Polish National Pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka.
The practice is defined by an international outlook and an approach rooted in dialogue and collaboration.

01. international outlook
We are a European studio with an international spirit. Based in Paris and Poland, we are connected to the world and in constant dialogue with other countries and cultures.
Our experience at Kengo Kuma & Associates allowed us to take part in renowned projects that have helped shape architectural trends on a global scale. Since then, we have been actively involved in projects across Spain, France, Denmark, Poland, Japan, the UAE, Colombia, Morocco and Norway — in programmes and scales ranging from domestic spaces to large public facilities.

Interplay does not seek a single style, but a way of listening: to the client, the context, the culture. Design emerges from that dialogue.
At Interplay, projects are born from an honest analysis of each client’s needs. Behind every project there are people, not egos. For us, the essence of architecture is not to impose a form, but to create a shared experience.
Contingencies refine the process. Challenges are overcome through creative solutions that make the difference between pessimism and success.
03. tailored to the project
Interplay means dialogue. Like in jazz, we believe in creative freedom, mutual listening and collaboration. Architecture is never created in isolation, but through a network.
We rely on a strong network of collaborators across different countries. We believe that projects are stronger when the team is tailored to the needs of each commission. We see our studio as a flexible structure, able to adapt to the specific —both physical and cultural— realities of each context.
04. connecting cultures
Our practice is founded on the conviction that architecture must connect cultures, disciplines and people. Each project is a meeting, not an isolated object.
In our projects, we explore new expressions of local building materials through a sensitive and creative approach that connects them to the culture of place. This ability to bridge contexts and traditions is reflected in our capacity to adapt each project to its environment, creating architecture that is both functional and deeply meaningful.

Alicja Kubicka
Founder & principal architect
Alicja Kubicka graduated in Architecture from the Poznań University of Technology, having completed two exchange programmes at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSA) and the La Coruña School of Architecture (ETSA). She has gained valuable experience working in renowned architectural practices such as Kengo Kuma and Wilmotte & Associés.
Throughout her career, Alicja has played a crucial role in the development of large-scale projects and in supervising construction works. Her notable achievements include the luxury hotel in Paris, T5B; the recently inaugurated Strasbourg Exhibition Centre; and the refurbishment of buildings on the INSEAD campus
Borja Martínez
Founder & principal architect
Borja Martínez graduated in Architecture from the San Sebastián School of Architecture (ETSASS), after completing an exchange programme at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), where he is registered with the Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM).
He has gained professional experience at the prestigious Japanese firm Kengo Kuma, as well as with the French agencies Archi5 and Dream. Borja has played a key role in international projects such as the new Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense, the Dr Leila Mezian Museum in Casablanca, and the luxury hotel Point du Bout in Martinique.
